Papa and Anya

Happy Holidays

Thanks for the gifts everyone! (Cool new pouch from Auntie Meribeth [who also knitted the pants as a birthday gift for Anya last month]). We actually do intend to send out thank you cards this year...much appreciation for all the stuff for our little one!

In the first picture, Zadek came by in what he called his bat mask.

bedtime

This video is oriented wrong but it cracks me up. We were both very tired last night but Anya wasn't. At one point Purl looked at his watch and said in Anya's direction, "it's late." I started laughing as he had seemed to be implying that it was time to "put her to bed."

first patty cake

Papa bonding and playing in angelic light.

I can feel the baby kicking!

We saw this joke in a cartoon in the New Yorker when I was still pregnant a few months ago and still find it hilarious.

Motherly pose

Schmutz in baby's eye...the most motherly I've looked in my opinion.

Cute because he didn't know I was filming. Sorry if it takes forever to load...this is an experiment in putting video on the blog.

Clothes!

We continue occasionally to dress our child. Pictured here: a custom-made onesie from our friend Beth (thanks, Beth!).

Artsy photos

Papa's latest in Baby Art. The new mobile, featuring clouds and chickens and a duck, appears to fascinate her.

Parents sleeping

We could do a whole series of these.

Week 2

The last one is how she looks at us about 80% of her waking hours.

Today Anya is 11 days old and seems to be sleeping/waking more erratically rather than more regularly. Her sounds keep getting more entertaining, though; we often refer to her as "our little squeak toy" or "the little ewok." She's getting noticeably fatter and pretty soon I'll weigh her on the postal scale to see how many ounces she's gained. From looks alone it seems she must be at least back to her birth weight. Not much else to report developmentally.

Bathtime!

Anya's first and second baths. Note that she appears to be singing James Brown in her bathrobe.

Three generations

Now I'm a mom and a daughter. Also, a nice one of Anya with eyes open. Papa stays hydrated and Grandma looks concerned, but Anya is awake! She's awake and alert about 2-3 hours of the day, most of them between 1 and 6 am.

Leaving Kaweah

We went outside yesterday. After much preparation and fanfare she ended up being swaddled in a blanket and wearing just a hat. I nursed her and she slept the whole three minutes we walked around the garden.

First outfit

Blog formatting is still very new to me and I'm not intending to spend many waking moments computing so forgive the strangeness of these layouts.

We put clothes on Anya after 3 days of blessed clotheslessness. She seemed okay with it but we'll still be avoiding dressing her as long as possible because it makes doing EC (elimination communication) much more cumbersome. It's warm in here and she's still barely left the house.

Anya's first three days

Anya Marjorie Joy was born at home (in the hallway!) at 7:17 pm on 11/20, after 25 hours of labor including 5 or 6 hours of pushing against a stubborn cervical lip. She weighed in at 7lbs, 10 ounces and measured 20 inches.

Granjoy and Grandeddy Samoheyl were here to help welcome her and celebrate her first few days of life, and Grandma on mom's side arrived today to stay until Thanksgiving.

She's an excellent nurser and has a lot of dark, soft hair.

Tomorrow I'll be 37 weeks, so this is a little out of date, but I'll put up more as soon as we take them.
